The Midi Pyrénées, located in the heart of the Southest of Europe, is the 14th largest region in the European Union. Midi-Pyrénées is one of the 26 regions of France.
The surface of the region is 45 348km2, including 8 Departments, 3021 municipalities and 2 855 792 inhabitants. The region has highly valued fields such as aeronautics, space, electronics, biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, computer science, information technology (IT), health and agribusiness.
Regional spaces appeared with the law of the 5th July 1972. Originally created as a public building, the "Région" became ten years later a local government such as the municipality or the "département". The Region deals with : the organization of regional public transportation, high-schools, professional training of nurses and social workers, cultural heritage inventory...
Approximately 800 regional civil servants divided into directions according to the regional technical skills, who prepare and apply the elected representatives' decisions.
